The countdown is on: on 4 August, the BIOGLOW™ challenges will be released worldwide. With the release of the tasks, the exciting project phase begins for you as coaches and participants in both the Future and Founders Editions! From that moment on, it’s all about building, programming, researching, testing, and developing creative solutions to the season challenges together.

In this recurring section, we regularly take a look at the development of the FIRST® LEGO® League Future Edition and what is useful for teams in preparation.

Shortly before the kickoff in August, it is worth revisiting the showcase at the FIRST Championship in Houston in early May. There, four pilot teams (including rhsRobotiX from Braunschweig) were able to test the new Future Edition 8+ game concept under real competition conditions.

For the 2026/27 BIOGLOW™ season, the following funding opportunities are currently available for Founders Edition teams:

• John Deere Foundation: funding for FIRST® LEGO® League Explore and Challenge teams in the Rhine-Neckar region
• Novelis: funding for Explore and Challenge teams in Magdeburg and the surrounding region

The BIOGLOW™ season takes teams on a journey through the fascinating ecosystems of our planet. At the center are the connections between nature, technology, and innovation.

Further details about the season challenges will follow with the official challenge release in August. From that point on, teams can begin developing their own creative solutions for the BIOGLOW missions.

Registration is now launching for the first time through a newly structured platform designed to be clearer and more powerful for all user roles (coaches, volunteers, and regional partners).

With the 2026/27 season, the new FIRST LEGO League Future Edition is launching. It uses the new LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Sets and is designed for classroom teaching, after-school programs, and robotics clubs. At the same time, the familiar elements of FIRST LEGO League remain unchanged: research, building, programming, and teamwork.

New is the flexible pricing structure: program participation, season set, and event participation are booked separately. This allows groups to start without participating in an event and decide later whether they would like to join one.

In the 2026/27 season, the well-known FIRST LEGO League formats Explore and Challenge will continue as part of the Founders Edition. Both programs remain an important foundation of FIRST LEGO League across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In the BIOGLOW season, all teams will explore the topic of biodiversity.

At the FIRST Championship in Houston last week, the new FIRST LEGO League season theme was presented.

In BIOGLOW, the 2026/27 season will focus on biodiversity and the question of how technology, creativity, and research can help better understand and protect natural habitats. Children and young people will develop innovative ideas using STEM skills – inspired by nature itself.

We are currently revising our registration process. Please note: the start of registration for the educational programme will be delayed by one week. From 19 May 2026, you can register your groups for the Explore, Challenge, and Future Edition 8+ programmes and also sign up for regional Founders and Future Edition events.

With the start of the new season, we are excited to offer Future Edition competitions for the first time in the new game format based on LEGO Education Computer Science & AI sets.

For teachers who want to get an in-depth look at the new LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI system, there is a 1-hour virtual workshop via mobile.schule offering practical insights into setup, content, and classroom use.

The goal is not a theoretical overview, but a realistic impression from classroom practice: How can the system be implemented in everyday teaching?

Four teams from the DACH region took part in the FIRST Championship in Houston and experienced robotics, teamwork, and international competition at the highest level.

We are very pleased to have been honoured as one of 32 initiatives nationwide in the “National Award – Education for Sustainable Development”. The award ceremony took place on 16 April in Dresden; our non-profit was represented by Kristina Hagen.
