Many regional events are already filling up. There are only a few places left for the Future Edition 8+ and the Founders Edition Challenge. Register your team by October 31.

The Founders Edition Explore has a separate registration deadline: you can register your team up to four weeks before the event. Depending on the region and what’s available, regional events take place between November and May.

Would you like to run the educational program without attending an event? You can still register your group without an event after the end of October.

The kickoff is underway: since October 1, schools, preschools, and other groups have been able to register children for the FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 5+. The program is for children ages 5 to 7, or grades 1 to 3, and can be run without attending an external event.

Across ten learning sessions, children explore biodiversity in the rainforest together. They learn about plants and animals, build the BIOGLOW™ season models, and take on their first team challenges.

This season, your projects are all about biodiversity. The BIOGLOW season resources for your program show what topics your teams can explore and where to find ideas and inspiration.

New resources are available to help you prepare for the Future Edition 8+: the first Game Update and the beta version of LEGO Education’s web-based Python environment.

The Game Update adds to Game Rule 21 and explains when referees can issue penalties. Review the update to make sure your preparations reflect the latest information.

Challenge Updates clarify and expand the Robot Game rules and missions. They include answers to common or particularly important questions so teams and referees can apply consistent and fair standards at all competitions.

Mission 04 has prompted many questions in recent weeks. We regularly consulted with the international Head Referees and shared new information as soon as it was available. However, later decisions changed or contradicted some earlier statements, which led to confusion. We apologize for that.

Several funding partners are supporting schools and teams taking part in FIRST LEGO League this season. The following funding opportunities are currently available:

• The Sedinum Foundation supports schools in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern taking part in the Future Edition.
• The Motorola Solutions Foundation supports Future Edition teams in Germany and Austria.
• Magna International Germany supports Future Edition teams near of its locations: Zwickau/Meerane und Soest/Paderborn.

The international LEGO Education website and Instagram channel are now the first places to find news. You can sign up on the website to receive updates.

The new season is gaining momentum: 69 groups have already started their BIOGLOW™ journey in the Future Edition 8+. Our regional events are filling up, too: Places are already becoming limited in five of our twelve Future regions, and the combined Future and Founders Edition event in Tyrol is already fully booked.

There’s plenty happening in the Founders Edition as well: 521 teams have registered for 55 Challenge tournaments, while 136 teams are signed up for 48 Explore exhibitions. Ten Challenge and five Explore events are already fully booked.

You have registered for the Future Edition 8+ BIOGLOW™ season and are wondering: What do we need to get started? Which materials are important now, and what can wait until later?

That is exactly what our Quick Start Guide for Coaches is designed for. It guides you through the first steps, from the equipment and season materials you need, to getting started with the game and project, and finally to the things that will only become important later when preparing for your event.

You do not need to know every document and every rule before you start working with your group. Take it step by step – the Quick Start shows you what you need and when you need it.

In two weeks, we’ll be hosting the second edition of our online session “Future Edition – Orientation for Coaches.” We’ll give you a concise overview of the Future Edition and what the upcoming changes mean for you and your teams. There will, of course, also be time for your questions and discussion.

This season, Magna International Germany, an international automotive supplier, is supporting FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 8+. Together with us, Magna is enabling 10 teams from areas surrounding its German locations to participate in the educational programme.

Secondary schools from the Meerane/Zwickau, Soest/Paderborn region and Untersteißheim/Greater Munich areas are eligible to apply. The funding includes, among other things, a Future Edition 8+ 2026/27 season set, digital materials and the programme fee for a group of up to eight participants.

The funding is designed to give young people in these regions the opportunity to experience STEM in a hands-on way, develop solutions together and turn their own ideas into reality.

This season, various funding partners are supporting schools and teams in taking part in FIRST LEGO League. In addition to Magna International Germany, which is funding a total of ten Future Edition teams around three of its locations, there are several other funding opportunities available.

New this year is the Sedinum Foundation, which is enabling up to ten schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to participate in the Future Edition.

The Motorola Solutions Foundation is supporting 14 Future Edition teams each in Germany and Austria.

A small number of funded places for Founders Edition teams are also available through Novelis in areas surrounding the company’s German locations.

The Hessian Ministry of Education is once again providing funding as well: primary schools and lower secondary schools in Hesse can receive support for the Explore, Challenge and Future Edition 8+ formats.

The first official Challenge Updates for the new season are here! They contain important clarifications for the Robot Game, including information on the setup and scoring of the missions, the bonus points for Mission 07, and the scoring and random placement of the grasshopper in Mission 04. Important for your preparation: the Challenge Updates are the official reference for questions concerning rules and scoring and take precedence over other sources.

Finally, the time has come: starting today at 6:00 PM, the challenges and materials for the new FIRST LEGO League season BIOGLOW™ will be available to you!

The countdown is on: on 4 August, the BIOGLOW™ challenges will be released worldwide. With the release of the tasks, the exciting project phase begins for you as coaches and participants in both the Future and Founders Editions! From that moment on, it’s all about building, programming, researching, testing, and developing creative solutions to the season challenges together.

In this recurring section, we regularly take a look at the development of the FIRST® LEGO® League Future Edition and what is useful for teams in preparation.

Shortly before the kickoff in August, it is worth revisiting the showcase at the FIRST Championship in Houston in early May. There, four pilot teams (including rhsRobotiX from Braunschweig) were able to test the new Future Edition 8+ game concept under real competition conditions.

For the 2026/27 BIOGLOW™ season, the following funding opportunities are currently available for Founders Edition teams:

• John Deere Foundation: funding for FIRST® LEGO® League Explore and Challenge teams in the Rhine-Neckar region
• Novelis: funding for Explore and Challenge teams in Magdeburg and the surrounding region

The BIOGLOW™ season takes teams on a journey through the fascinating ecosystems of our planet. At the center are the connections between nature, technology, and innovation.

Further details about the season challenges will follow with the official challenge release in August. From that point on, teams can begin developing their own creative solutions for the BIOGLOW missions.

Registration is now launching for the first time through a newly structured platform designed to be clearer and more powerful for all user roles (coaches, volunteers, and regional partners).

With the 2026/27 season, the new FIRST LEGO League Future Edition is launching. It uses the new LEGO Education Computer Science & AI Sets and is designed for classroom teaching, after-school programs, and robotics clubs. At the same time, the familiar elements of FIRST LEGO League remain unchanged: research, building, programming, and teamwork.

New is the flexible pricing structure: program participation, season set, and event participation are booked separately. This allows groups to start without participating in an event and decide later whether they would like to join one.

In the 2026/27 season, the well-known FIRST LEGO League formats Explore and Challenge will continue as part of the Founders Edition. Both programs remain an important foundation of FIRST LEGO League across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In the BIOGLOW season, all teams will explore the topic of biodiversity.

At the FIRST Championship in Houston last week, the new FIRST LEGO League season theme was presented.

In BIOGLOW, the 2026/27 season will focus on biodiversity and the question of how technology, creativity, and research can help better understand and protect natural habitats. Children and young people will develop innovative ideas using STEM skills – inspired by nature itself.

We are currently revising our registration process. Please note: the start of registration for the educational programme will be delayed by one week. From 19 May 2026, you can register your groups for the Explore, Challenge, and Future Edition 8+ programmes and also sign up for regional Founders and Future Edition events.

With the start of the new season, we are excited to offer Future Edition competitions for the first time in the new game format based on LEGO Education Computer Science & AI sets.

For teachers who want to get an in-depth look at the new LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI system, there is a 1-hour virtual workshop via mobile.schule offering practical insights into setup, content, and classroom use.

The goal is not a theoretical overview, but a realistic impression from classroom practice: How can the system be implemented in everyday teaching?

Four teams from the DACH region took part in the FIRST Championship in Houston and experienced robotics, teamwork, and international competition at the highest level.

We are very pleased to have been honoured as one of 32 initiatives nationwide in the “National Award – Education for Sustainable Development”. The award ceremony took place on 16 April in Dresden; our non-profit was represented by Kristina Hagen.
