Our Quick Start for Coaches shows you step by step what you need to get started, which materials will guide you through the season, and where to begin with your group.
Season Journey
Your guide through the season: You don’t need to figure out how to put all the different materials together yourselves. The Engineering Notebook guides participants through the 16 sessions. In the LEGO Education Teacher Portal, you’ll find the corresponding presentations and guidance for coaches and teachers.
Plan enough time to work through the BIOGLOWTM season. Depending on how much time you can dedicate each week, completing the program will take about 10 weeks if you spend around two hours per week. The Engineering Notebook is organized into 16 learning sessions of approximately 60 minutes each. Depending on your group's experience and prior knowledge, some sessions may take more or less time to complete.
Engineering Notebook
The Engineering Notebook guides participating students step by step through the FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 8+ BIOGLOWTM season. It leads them through each learning session and provides space for notes, ideas, and reflections.
LEGO Education Teacher Portal
The Teacher Portal provides teachers and coaches with ready-to-use presentations and guidance for delivering each learning session. Organized around the 16 learning sessions, these resources help you deliver the season in a clear and structured way.

Here’s how to get started with the game:
- First, build the mission models and place them using the field map. Use the field setup video for guidance.
- Next, build the four team models. For each role, use the role card, video, and building instructions to get started. Then adapt the team models to fit your game strategy.
- Familiarize yourselves with the game missions and game rules. Read the documents and watch the game video.
- Use Coding Canvas for programming. More experienced teams can also program with Python.

Are parts missing from your Future Edition 8+ Set?
If LEGO elements or entire bags are missing from your FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 8+ Set, please contact LEGO Customer Service directly. To help them process your request quickly, please provide the set number of the Future Edition 8+ Set (2026/27 season: 45834) as well as the element numbers of the missing parts. You can find these in the overview of all elements.

The Four Roles in the Game
The four roles are a key element of Future Edition 8+. Each role has its own team model with a specific task in the game. The four roles also appear in the project: each role leads to its own project pathway.
Here you’ll find the role cards for the game and a corresponding explanatory video for each role.
Role: Driver
Drive the driving base, collect game tokens, and complete game missions.
Role: Operator
Operate a mechanical tool to place resources strategically on the game field.
Role: Specialist
Coordinate the Grand Tree and manage the flow of resources across the game field.
Role: Technician
Design technical solutions and deliver keystone species to their destination.

Four Roles – Four Project Paths
Each of the four game roles has its own Project Path. After exploring all four Project Paths together as a team, choose one Project Path and use the guiding questions to explore the season theme in greater depth.
Role: Driver

Event Materials
Ready for the Next Step?
After completing your project, you can present your results at your school or take part in an official FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 8+ event in your region. There, you'll meet other teams, present your work to a panel of judges, and receive valuable feedback. Together, you'll celebrate your achievements and the work you've accomplished.

Event Awards
At every event, the achievements of all teams are recognized. Every participant receives a medal in recognition of their dedication and teamwork. Outstanding achievements are also recognized with certificates and trophies in the categories Champion, Game, Project, Engineering Design, and Core Values. In addition, one coach at each event is honored for their outstanding commitment.
Judging Session
Each team takes part in a 35-minute judging session. During two five-minute presentations, you will present your project as well as your engineering design process and game strategy. Afterwards, you will answer the judges' questions and receive valuable feedback. Review the judging session schedule before the event so you know what to expect. Important: Coaches may observe the judging session but must not actively participate.
Judging Rubrics
The judges evaluate your project and engineering design process using official judging rubrics with clearly defined assessment criteria. Use these rubrics as a guide while preparing for your event. An honest self-assessment will help you recognize your strengths and identify areas where you can continue to improve before the event.
Game Scoresheet
At the event, referees evaluate your game performance using the official game scoresheet. Depending on the event, results are recorded either on paper or digitally. The same missions, rules, and scoring system are used at every event. Each team plays three two-and-a-half-minute matches alongside other teams on the game field.
