A new Era begins: FIRST LEGO League Future Edition

n January 2026, FIRST and LEGO Education presented the global development of the FIRST LEGO League – the so-called Future Edition. Even though many of you are already informed, we would like to summarize the key points once again, including through a regular feature here in the Season Update.

Starting in August 2026, a transition phase will begin with two editions running in parallel: The Founders Edition, based on LEGO Education SPIKE™, will continue through the 2027/28 season. At the same time, the Future Edition (first season 2026/27) will launch, based on the new LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI sets. This approach allows existing resources to continue to be used while enabling a gradual transition.

With the Future Edition, the FIRST LEGO League will further evolve in terms of content – featuring new hardware approaches, more interactive missions, new team roles, and a stronger focus on diverse learning pathways. The goal remains unchanged: to inspire children and young people sustainably in STEM and to reach new target groups for the program.
